Conjecturally they were descended from a Norman noble, Anschitil, who held the manor and village of Fillingham from both Roger of Poitou and the King, which is recorded in the Domesday Book taken in 1086 A.D. Originally called Felingeham this ancient Roman site and church descended to the Lords of the manor of Fillingham about the 12th century.
