The surname Ferraioulo was first found in Padua (Italian: Padova, Latin: Patavium, Venetian: Padoa), an ancient Roman municipality founded in 215, that was devastated by Alaric in 409, and again by Attila the Hun in 459, after which it passed into the hands of the Lombards. The German emperor Frederick II, founded the famous Padova University there in 1221. In those ancient times only persons of rank, the podesta, clergy, city officials, army officers, artists, landowners were entered into the records. To be recorded at this time, at the beginning of recorded history, was of itself a great distinction and indicative of noble ancestry.
