The saga of the Errel family begins among the people of the ancient tribe of the Picts. They lived in the lands of Errol (Arroll) in Perthshire.

Early Origins of the Errel family

The surname Errel was first found in Perthshire (Gaelic: Siorrachd Pheairt) former county in the present day Council Area of Perth and Kinross, located in central Scotland, where they held a family seat in the parish of Errol from whence they get their name. The family is not directly related to the Lords of Errol, who are in fact a part of the Scottish Hay clan.
