Eggleson is a Dalriadan-Scottish name, no doubt originally for a person who lived in the old Barony of Eaglesham in the county of Renfrew (now part of the Strathclyde region), Scotland. Here we find the following early entries: "Dominus Robertus de Heiglssam, chaplain, who witnessed a confirmation by Alexander filius Walteri of his father's gifts to the church of Paisley in 1239. Barthelmeu de Egglesham, chapeleyn, was warden of the New Place of Seneware (Sanquhar) in the county of Dunfres in 1296. Many who arrived from Scotland settled along the east coast of North America in communities that would go on to become the backbones of the young nations of the United States and Canada. In the American War of Independence, many settlers who remained loyal to England went north to Canada as United Empire Loyalists.
