The village dates back to the Domesday Book of 1086 where it was listed as Dribi 1 and literally meant "dry farmstead or village," from the Old English "dryge" + the Viking word "by." 2 The first record of the surname was found in the year 1296 when Ralph Dryby held estates in this area.
