Early Origins of the Drybie family

The surname Drybie was first found in Linconshire at Driby, a village and former civil parish in the East Lindsey district in the union of Spilsby, Wold division of the wapentake of Candleshoe. The village dates back to the Domesday Book of 1086 where it was listed as Dribi 1 and literally meant "dry farmstead or village," from the Old English "dryge" + the Viking word "by." 2 The first record of the surname was found in the year 1296 when Ralph Dryby held estates in this area.
