The surname Driburt was first found in Berwickshire, but one of the first records of the name was Adam of Dryburgh (c.1140–1212), a late 12th and early 13th century Anglo-Scottish theologian, writer and Premonstratensian and Carthusian monk born in what is now the Scottish Borders. His life was well documented from when he first rose to be Abbot of Dryburgh Abbey (1184–1188) to his life in England at old priory in Witham, Somerset.
