An early explorer of the New World was Antonio de Espejo, who voyaged to New Spain in 1571 with the expedition of Pedro Moya de Contreras. In 1581-82 Antonio led an expedition to explore the territory that is today New Mexico. Later migrants included Juan de Dios Espejo, who sailed to Puerto Rico in 1851.
