Byrom is a name that came to England in the 11th century wave of migration that was set off by the Norman Conquest of 1066. The Byrom family lived at Bryram, a township in the parish of Brotherton, in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

The surname Byrom was first found in Lancashire where they held a family seat from very early times and were granted lands by Duke William of Normandy, their liege Lord, for their distinguished assistance at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 A.D.
