Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Christia Burgemeister, who immigrated to Georgia in 1741 with his wife Elizabeth and his three sons Christia, Martin, and Hans Ulrich, Friedrich Burgemeister, who served with the British troops in the American revolutionary war and later settled in Quebec, Heinrich Christoph Burgemeister and Johann Martin Burgemeister, who lived in Georgia between 1733 and 1783.
