The surname Beckbay was first found in Northamptonshire at Long Buckby, village and civil parish which dates back over 1,200 years. Even today, the mound remaining of a castle built by Sahir de Quincy in the 12th century can still be seen. The village and the surname both derive their name from the words "by meaning settlement and "Buck' which was derived from 'Bec' (pronounced 'becker' in old Norse) for stream/brook. 1

The village is recorded in the Domesday Book as Buchebei. 2 The population as of 2001 was 4,000.
