Symbolism > thunderbolt

thunderbolt

The thunderbolt is an ancient heraldic emblem of sovereignty, power and speed. It signifies the performance of weighty business with immense speed and force. The device and its significance is derived from classic mythology in which the thunderbolt is ascribed to the Roman god Jupiter, or the Greek god Zeus. It occurs very seldom in heraldry and usually only in crests.
