The talbot signifies courage, vigilancy and loyal fidelity. The ancient talbot (a name of Norman origin) is said to be an ancestor of the English bloodhound, known for its keen following of a scent and its eager pursuit of game. It is said that the Talbot thrived on the hunt rather than the kill. In Medieval times, talbot was sometimes used as a common name for any hound.
