Symbolism > rampant
rampantWhen an animal is shown in the rampant position, it is shown with the left paw or foot on the ground and the rest of the legs are in an attacking position. The whole beast, unless otherwise blazoned, faces the dexter (right with respect to the shield). Rampant is often referred to as the “fighting position” and thus reflects an awareness, readyness or alert attitude of the bearer. Early heralds only permitted the lion to be “rampant” but through time many animals were given this position. It is probably the most dignified of all positions.Copyright © 2000 - 2012 Swyrich Corporation, all rights reserved Tools
