Symbolism > panther
panther
The panther is said to represent a beautiful woman who is tender and loving to her young, and will defend them even with her own life in jeopardy. It is a symbol of bravery in defense of the weak. It is difficult to know whether to class the panther with actual or mythical creatures in heraldry. Often it is depicted flammant or incensed, with flames issuing from its mouth and ears. On the continent the panther is often depicted with the tail of a lion, horns, and the claws of an eagle on its forelegs. Early armorial representations show a more natural representation, but they quickly disappear in favour of artistic creativity.Copyright © 2000 - 2009 Swyrich Corporation, all rights reserved
