heliotrope

The heliotrope, or sunflower, is a symbol of one who pursues religious salvation. Just as the flower turns toward the sun, so the bearer of the heliotrope turns to the light and glory. The marigold is an ancient heraldic emblem of devotion and piety, very close to a sunflower in shape and meaning.
