Gauntlets or armored gloves symbolize a man armed and ready to make war. The ancient form of a gauntlet, at least in heraldry, was more like an armored mitten, but it is now more often drawn with fingers, than not. It is necessary to distinguish between a right and left gauntlet in the blazon of the arms, as these are very important details.
