Symbolism > cross tau

cross tau

The cross tau is also called the cross of St. Anthony who is represented with this cross embroidered on the left side of his garment. It is also called a commisse by some heraldic writers in an allusion to Ezekiel, 4:4 as representing the token of absolution with which malefactors are stamped on the hand. It is drawn like a Greek Tau or a capital T, with the bars spreading outwards from their junction and each edge joined by concave lines.
