battering ram

The battering ram is an ancient war machine that is a symbol of determination, especially in war. The image of the battering ram may have also been granted to someone who was greatly skilled in its use, or who was in charge of it during wartime. It is not a device found frequently in heraldry and it does not resemble a real battering ram either. It consists of a ram’s head on the end of a log, with ropes encircling it and hooks attached to them, presumably to hold it up.
