anemone

Anemones or sea urchins are symbolic of sorrow and death. An urchin is from the old English word urcheon, which is another word for hedgehog. Thus anemones were called, after a kind, sea hedgehogs and often anemones were mistaken for hedgehogs in the blazon. In mythology, Adonis was said to have died on a bed of anemones, which then turned from white to red.
