First found in Selkirkshire, where the name Dalgleish had its roots in the lands of Dalgleish on Tinna Water, in the Parish of Ettrick, Selkirkshire, in Scotland. The Dalgleish family figured prominently in the Scottish-English border conflicts.

These settlers arrived in North America at a time when the east was burgeoning with prosperous colonies and the expanses of the west were just being opened up.
