First found in Banffshire, where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D.

Early passenger and immigration lists reveal many Scottish settlers bearing the name Caddell: John Cadell who settled in Barbados in 1654; another John arrived in New York in 1774; Elizabeth Cadell arrived in New England in 1767.
