First found in Suffolk where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest in 1066 A.D. A landholder of the name Fisc is recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086 in the county of Suffolk near Laxfield, anciently known in Saxon geography of Suffolk as Laxefelda.

Many English families tired of political and religious strife left Britain for the new colonies in North America. Although the trip itself offered no relief - conditions on the ships were extremely cramped, and many travelers arrived diseased, starving, and destitute - these immigrants believed the oppurtunities that awaited them were worth the risks. An inquiry into the early roots of North American families has revealed a number of immigrants bearing the name Fiske or a variant listed above: John Fiske, who arrived in Salem Massachusetts in 1637; David Fiske settled in Cambridge Massachusetts in 1640; Caspar Fisk settled in Delaware in 1693.
