Often Italian local surnames bore the prefix "di," which signifies emigration from one place to another, but does not necessarily denote nobility. The Bassan family lived in Verona, where Don Donino Bassani was the priest of the Cathedral in Verona in 1405, and was archpriest of San Giovanni in Fonte in 1413.
