But Saxon surnames survived and the family name was first referenced in the year 1095 when Lefuine Baron held estates at Bury in Suffolk.

Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Barbe Baron who arrived in Quebec in 1667; Humerton Baron who settled in Jamaica in 1689; Ann Baron who arrived in South Carolina in 1788; Alex Baron who arrived in New Orleans in 1820.
