First found in Wielkopolska, or "Great Poland," the historical region that incorporates today's districts of Kalisz, Poznan, Leszno and Konin. Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Michael Jackowitz, who came to Maryland some time between the years 1900 and 1910; Anna Jackowska, who arrived in Baltimore in 1909 aboard the "SS Hannover.
