Spelling variations of this family name include: Sollars, Sollas, Sollis, Sollace, Soller, Sollar, Sollas, Solles, Solers, Solars, Solis, Solas and many more.

First found in Herefordshire, where the Solar family was anciently seated as Lords of the Manor. The Saxon influence of English history diminished after the Battle of Hastings in 1066; the language of the courts was French for the next three centuries and the Norman ambience prevailed. However, many Saxon surnames survived, and the family name Solar was first referenced in the year 1176, when Henry de Solaris held estates in that shire. Today, Neen Sollars is a village and civil parish in south east Shropshire. The village dates back to before the Domesday Book where it was listed as Nene[1] The de Solers family were found here from the late 12th century[2]
