In ancient Anglo-Saxon England, the ancestors of the Lockward surname lived in the place called Lockwood that was in the West Riding of Yorkshire. The surname Lockward is a habitation name that was originally derived from the Old English words loca and wudu, meaning enclosure and wood. Therefore the original bearers of the surname lived in or near a forest in Yorkshire.
