They held the crown of the Holy Roman Empire from 1440 to 1918. They branched into many royal houses, becoming the crown heads of Austria, Spain Hungary, Bohemia, areas of France, Holland, the Netherlands, and others, and their contributions were sought by many leaders in their search for power.
