Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Francisco Santamaria and his brother Nicolas who settled in Nicaragua in 1562; Alonso De Santa Maria who came to Florida in 1587; and Diego De Santa Maria who arrived in 1596. Later migrants included Juan Santa Maria who immigrated to Puerto Rico in 1803.
