Where did the English Daybell family come from? What is the English Daybell family crest and coat of arms? When did the Daybell family first arrive in the United States? Where did the various branches of the family go? What is the Daybell family history?

Daybell is a name of Anglo-Saxon origin and came from the baptismal name Theobald, which was an ancient personal name. After the Norman Conquest, the Old English naming system gradually dissolved. Old English names became less common and were replaced by popular continental European names. The earliest surnames in England were found shortly after the Norman Conquest and are of Norman French rather than native English origins.

Spelling variations in names were a common occurrence before English spelling was standardized a few hundred years ago. In the Middle Ages, even the literate spelled their names differently as the English language incorporated elements of French, Latin, and other European languages. Many variations of the name Daybell have been found, including Theobald, Theobalds, Diebold, Theobold, Tubald, Tudball, Dipple, Diebald, Teupel, Diepelt, Dewalt and many more.

First found in the Domesday Book of 1086; several bearers of Daybell as a personal name were recorded as landowners after the Norman Conquest, particularly in Huntingdonshire, Cambridgeshire, and Suffolk. The first recorded instance of Daybell as a surname occurred in 1199, where Tomas Teobald was living in Gloucestershire.
