Where did the English Danison family come from? What is the English Danison family crest and coat of arms? When did the Danison family first arrive in the United States? Where did the various branches of the family go? What is the Danison family history?

The name Danison reached English shores for the first time with the ancestors of the Danison family as they migrated following the Norman Conquest of 1066. The Danison family lived in Lancashire. The name is said to be of Angevin origin, and it is likely that it is a local reference to a town now lost to the maps.

Before English spelling was standardized a few hundred years ago, spelling variations of names were a common occurrence. Elements of Latin, Norman French and other languages became incorporated into English throughout the Middle Ages, and name spellings changed even among the literate. The variations of the surname Danison include Danison, Danisone, Dansone, Danson and others.

First found in Lancashire where conjecturally they were descended from the great Norman noble, Ive or Ivo Taillebois, who held large portions of the north of Lancashire, and that part of Westmorland which came under the barony of Kendal. The surnames also descended from this noble are Lancaster, Kendal and Irby, Bardsea, Broughton, Kirby and Preston. Ivo arrived in England with William the Conqueror, but there is little known of the family except that they were Angevin.

In England at this time, the uncertainty of the political and religious environment of the time caused many families to board ships for distant British colonies in the hopes of finding land and opportunity, and escaping persecution. The voyages were expensive, crowded, and difficult, though, and many arrived in North America sick, starved, and destitute. Those who did make it, however, were greeted with greater opportunities and freedoms that they could have experienced at home. Many of those families went on to make important contributions to the young nations in which they settled. Early immigration records have shown some of the first Danisons to arrive on North American shores:
