First found in County Roscommon, where O Dathaill was a sept of the Silmurray. The name can also be found early on in County Cork where Walter O'Daal was charged with many thefts and jailed in 1295. John Roe MacDonagh O'Dahill resided in Bruree in County Limerick in 1579. Knogher O'Deaghill, born in 1529, appeared in front of a commission set to determine the bonds of the Earl of Ormond's ancient estates in County Kilkenny.
