The Anglo-Saxon name Beaveridge comes from when the family resided on Beverage, an island in the Severn River Estuary. The place name literally means beaver island, which explains the presence of the beaver on the family coat of arms. The surname Beaveridge arises from two Old English words: beofer,which means beaver, and ige which means island. While the name Beaveridge may have arisen in the southwest of England, it is generally associated with Yorkshire and Scotland.
