Early Origins of the Trembath family

The surname Trembath was first found in Cornwall where they held a family seat as Lords of the Manor of St. Ervan.

"The manor of Trembleth in this parish, was in former times the property of an ancient family of this name. The word itself is said to imply the howling, or terrifying of a wolf, and it was probably derived from the natural circumstances of the place, the whole country being formerly overrun with these beasts of prey; until a reward offered by government finally led to the extirpation of the race. In allusion to this, the family of Trembleth gave a wolf for their crest, and when the name became extinct, it was transmitted with their property into other families." 1
