Early Origins of the Titchard family

The surname Titchard was first found in Devon at Tytherleigh, a small village in the civil parish of Chardstock. Originally in Dorset, the place name was derived from the Old English word tiedre, meaning "thin" or "tender" and leah which meant "woodland," collectively "thin or tender woodland." Tytherleigh Manor was home to the Tytherleigh family from about 1220 to 1729.
