Early Origins of the Tedrick family

The surname Tedrick was first found in Selkirk, where they held a family seat. The history of the family followed the same pattern as many of the Norman families who moved north in 1137 after the Barons revolt against King Stephen in England. Adam, son of Henry of Totherigg rendered homage to King Edward 1st of England at Berwick after his brief conquest of Scotland in 1296. It was the Norman custom for the second son of a landed family to adopt the name of his estates as his surname.
