Early Origins of the Suppa family

The surname Suppa was first found in counties Cork and Limerick (Irish: Luimneach) located in Southwestern Ireland, in the province of Munster, where the name is present and quite numerous in almost every extant record. The first ancestor of the Suppa family in Ireland (then dela Chappelle) came in 1171 as a member of Strongbow's forces, and was granted lands in Limerick and Cork.

"There is scarcely an extant record, particularly those dealing with counties Limerick and Cork, which does not mention them. Though I have never had occasion to make an exhaustive search for them, references I have noted from time to time occupy a full page of a large ledger. " 1

The Suppa Motto +

The motto was originally a war cry or slogan. Mottoes first began to be shown with arms in the 14th and 15th centuries, but were not in general use until the 17th century. Thus the oldest coats of arms generally do not include a motto. Mottoes seldom form part of the grant of arms: Under most heraldic authorities, a motto is an optional component of the coat of arms, and can be added to or changed at will; many families have chosen not to display a motto.

Motto: Mens conscia recti
Motto Translation: A mind conscious of integrity
