From the historical and enchanting region of France emerged a multitude of notable family names, including that of the distinguished Rondon family. The surname Rondon was first found in île-de-France, where the ancestors of this family possessed properties and manors.

In Paris, the name Le Rondeau is found since the 14th century. The family continued to spread within this same region. Of the branch Rondé was a Parisian advisor and of the branch Rondeau, an attorney. Guillaume Rondelet, born in Montpellier in 1507, died in Réalmont (Tarn) in 1566, was a taxidermist and doctor. Two of his works were translated under the title of the Complete History of Fish, written in 1558.

Jean Rondelet was born in Lyon in 1743 and died in Paris in 1829. He was an architect, a student of Soufflot and member of the French Institut. Other branches formed in Lyon with Rondet, in Poitou, in Maine with Rondeau, in Brittany with Rondel, and in Champagne with Rondot.

Pierre Rondeau, son of Jean and Jacquette (née Pallereau), travelled from France to Canada in the 17th century. After arriving in Quebec he married Catherine Verrier, daughter of Jean and Agnes (née Briquet), on 30th September 1669. He remarried on 5th September 1683 to Marie Ancelin, daughter of René and Marie (née Juin), at Saint-Jean-de-l'île-d'Orléans. 1
