The surname McComisky was first found in Monaghan (Irish: Muineachán) located in the Northern part of the Republic of Ireland in the province of Ulster, where they held a family seat but more recently in Longford, Cavan and Westmeath. Irish history was greatly influenced by the Norman invasion of 1172, and thereafter, the surnames of Irish Gaelic clanns and septs and many of the Norman families became almost indistinguishable. This family name was first recorded as being descended from Fiacha Suidhe, a younger brother of King Conn of the Hundred Battles in the 3rd century. and later through the 8th century Cumuscach, (Cumiskey) Lord and a chieftain, descended from the Lords of North Decies in Munster, and the Felan line. 1
