The surname Lamerson was first found in Lancashire where they held a family seat from very ancient times. The first record was in the village of Warton where they held their mansion and family seat. They are believed to be of Norman origin and arrived after the Norman Conquest in 1066. In Normandy they held a family seat at Lambert-sur-Dive and Lambert sur Orne.

Research into the origins of individual families in North America has revealed records of the immigration of a number of people bearing the name Lamerson or a variant listed above: Barnabas Lampson, who arrived in Cambridge, MA in 1635; William Lampson, who was on record in Ipswich, MA in 1637; Easter Lampson, who came to Boston in 1766.
