The root of the ancient Dalriadan-Scottish name Kallay is the Gaelic surname of Scottish origin, which means son of the battle chief.The translation of Gaelic names in the Middle Ages was not a task undertaken with great care. Over the years Kallay has appeared as MacAll, MacColl, MacCole, MacCall, MacAul, Mccall and others.
