Early Origins of the Jaubert family

The surname Jaubert was first found in Périgord, where the family held a family seat since ancient times.

The House of Jaubert originates with Pierre who lived in the 12th century and died in 1206. Jean Jalbert was the Lord of Nantiac in 1263 and he seems to be the father of Guillaume Jalbert who is mentioned in 1286. The Jaubert of La Bastide of Châteaumorand and of Vaulry families were known in Limousin since Pierre, Lord of La Bastide, was noted in 1300 and they were allied with the Cosnac, Aubusson, Lambertye, and Villelume amongst others. During the 14th century the family prospered and expanded to various regions where many members were honoured for their collaboration in matters of their communities.

The celebrated branch of Jaubert of Vallons is recorded in Angoumois since the 14th century. Amongst Itier Jalbert's descendants were the Lords of Barrault, an Archbishop of Arles, several Ambassadors and a Vice-Admiral of Guyenne. Noble Audoin, a descendant of Jean, the Lord of Nantiac, who died before 1408, was the father of Golfier and of Bernard who created two new branches of the family.
