Early Origins of the Hoomana family

The surname Hoomana was first found in Cagliari (Latin: Carales) on the Gulf of Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia. In 485, Sardinia was taken by Vandals but by 522, it was retaken by Justinian. Saracens took control in the 8th century finally to be driven out by Pisans and Genoese. The Kings of Aragon next acquired the island and it remained in the hands of Spain until 1720. It suffered heavy damage in WWII. In those ancient times only persons of rank, the podesta, clergy, city officials, army officers, artists, landowners were entered into the records. To be recorded at this time, at the beginning of recorded history, was of itself a great distinction and indicative of noble ancestry.
