Where did the English Hayden family come from? What is the English Hayden family crest and coat of arms? When did the Hayden family first arrive in the United States? Where did the various branches of the family go? What is the Hayden family history?

The name Hayden is an old Anglo-Saxon name. It comes from when the family lived in one of a variety of similarly-named places. Settlements called Heydon were found in Dorset, Somerset, and Wiltshire. Cambridge and Norfolk both had places called Heydon, and Haydon Bridge was in Northumberland. The surname Hayden belongs to the large category of Anglo-Saxon habitation names, which are derived from pre-existing names for towns, villages, parishes, or farmsteads.
