Booton is an ancient Norman name that arrived in England after the Norman Conquest of 1066. It is a name for a maker or seller of boots. 1 The name is derived from the Middle English word bote, which means boot. They were originally from Buat a castle near Falais in Normandy. 2

His labours in that direction were mainly in relation to questions which had been raised concerning the various readings in the Hebrew text of the Bible, and the possibility of correcting them by the Septuagint.
