Distinguished members of the family include Robert Blage or Blagge (d. 1522?), an English judge, who was of a Suffolk family, and was son of Stephen Blagge of Broke Montague in Somersetshire. "He was a commissioner of sewers in Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire in 1515, in Middlesex, Essex, and Hertfordshire in 1516, and in Kent in 1517. Migration of the Blige family

Families began migrating abroad in enormous numbers because of the political and religious discontent in England. Often faced with persecution and starvation in England, the possibilities of the New World attracted many English people. Although the ocean trips took many lives, those who did get to North America were instrumental in building the necessary groundwork for what would become powerful new nations.
