Some members of this family branched into other regions of France, especially north to Normandy. The members of the branch of Bérulle distinguished themselves as the Marquis Bérulle in Champagne, Dauphiné and île-de-France. Several members of this illustrious family became renowned for their contributions to their respective communities. From the branch established in Brittany, there was an advisor in the Court of Appeals of Quimper and a deputy in the Parliament of 1769. The family became even more prominent through many alliances with other important families of the day, such as the Berbis family.

Damien Berube, son of Robert and Catherine (née Pognot), was baptized in France on 2nd February 1647. He travelled to the New World in 1671 where he worked at Rivière-Ouelle. After settling in Quebec he married Jeanne Savonnet, daughter of Jacques and Antoinette (née Babilotte), on 22nd August 1679. They had seven children and remained together in Quebec until Damien's death on 7th March 1688. 1
