The surname Alderete is derived from the Spanish words "aldea", meaning "village", and "aldeorrio", meaning "little place, rural backwater." Another source claims the name is from Arabic "al-daya" meaning "owner of a small farm." 1

Early Origins of the Alderete family

The surname Alderete was first found in the capital city of Oviedo in Asturias in northern Spain. The name "originated with Count don Alderedo of the Conquest of Leon in 719. Alderetes founded homes in Galicia, Tordesillas, Toro, Valladolid, Salamanca, Olmedo, Toledo, Madrid, Aragon, and Andalucia." 1
